The holiday season is here and that can mean a lot of over eating. What happens next? You get a little heavy around the waist. Now, having a really healthy and heavy meal once in a while is okay, it's the heavy repeated consumption that will get you in trouble. Before you get ready for you binging, here are some tips to help you keep from getting that muffin top look when you are wearing your jeans.

Sit ups are great for getting in shape, and helping keep tone. If you want to lose belly fat as quickly as possible, then sit ups are the best option for you. Combined with a good aerobic program, the sit ups can help you to firm up your abdomen muscles. If you want to lose belly fat then you need to burn the calories. And the best way to lose weight in selected areas of your body is to work the muscles in those problem areas. Sit ups are the ideal exercise to burn away that stubborn belly fat.

Avoid fried foods. Fried foods are loaded with calories and fat and have little nutritional value. Fried foods are especially bad because they are completely surrounded by fat while they are being cooked, and a great deal of that fat ends up on and in the food. As your body absorbs these fried foods, some of it is stored in the form of fat. Fried foods once in a great while is okay, after all who doesn't like their french fries?

Avoid snacking. Snacking, particularly late at night, is a big contributing factor in the creation of belly fat. You can easily lose several pounds and reduce that belly fat by just cutting out those late night snacks. Consider that every snack can consist of anywhere from 300 calories or more. Do that 5 times a day, and you are eating an extra 1500 calories!

Speed up your metabolism. Your metabolism determines how much of the food you eat is turned into fat. People with a fast metabolism will burn off most of the calories they consume and will gain little or no weight. People with a slow metabolism are much more prone to creating more and more belly fat. Another way to speed up your metabolism is to eat 5 small meals per day, and make sure those meals include high protien, complex carbohydrates, and low fat.

Make exercise part of your daily routine. If you are having a hard time committing to exercise, start small. Take the stairs in stead of the elevator. Park your car a little farther away from the mall. Little things add up!
